The expeller and pressure-reducing cover are core components of the slurry pump's hydrodynamic sealing system. Used as a matched pair, they are located behind the main impeller and in front of the shaft seal. Together, they form a critical assembly that prevents leakage, reduces pressure, protects the shaft seal, and blocks sand ingress.

Compared to standard mechanical seals, the expeller and pressure-reducing cover configuration offers superior resistance to slurry, abrasive particles, and high temperatures, while eliminating the need for frequent water seal replacements. It is the most classic and durable sealing combination for slurry pumps used in mining, coal washing, and desulfurization applications.

1. Slurry Pump Expeller


A dynamic rotating sealing component that spins synchronously with the pump shaft, featuring streamlined centrifugal vanes.


- Installed behind the main impeller and outside the shaft sleeve

A static, fixed sealing chamber component mounted at the pump's rear liner position, enclosing the expeller.

- High pressure-bearing capacity; effectively contains the negative pressure zone created by the expeller

Working Principle


During pump operation, the expeller rotates at high speed to generate counter-acting centrifugal pressure (air or fluid), forcibly throwing high-pressure slurry or sand-laden fluid—which would otherwise migrate toward the shaft seal—back into the pump chamber.

Simultaneously, the pressure-reducing cover forms a sealed pressure-relief chamber, significantly lowering the pressure of the pumped medium acting on the stuffing box and mechanical seal.


Result:

Virtually zero leakage during operation; particles are prevented from entering the sealing area; and the shaft seal is protected from overheating, slurry spraying, and excessive pressure buildup. Relies on auxiliary packing seals during shutdown to eliminate static leakage, making it suitable for 24-hour continuous industrial operations.
