Slurry Pump Lantern Restrictor

The No. 118 front water seal ring (also known in the industry as a "lantern ring" or "shaft seal water ring") is a core component of the slurry pump gland packing seal system. It is designed for assembly with the expeller, pressure-reducing cover, packing, and shaft sleeve. Installed at the front of the stuffing box, it serves as a critical standard part that isolates slurry, cools and lubricates the packing, and prevents sand particles from entering the sealing area. It is widely compatible with the full range of horizontal AH, HH, and ZJ series slurry pumps. Designated by the standard OEM part code "118," it offers precise dimensions for seamless interchangeability.

Product Structure

1. Integrated Hollow Annular Structure

Features a solid ring design with annular flow channels machined into both the inner and outer walls. Four to six small radial water-flow holes are evenly distributed around the ring, ensuring interconnected water paths and a uniform 360° flow of flushing water around the pump shaft without dead zones or flow interruptions.

2. Precision Locating Shoulder Design

Equipped with a stepped locating shoulder at one end; during installation, the smaller diameter section fits against the stuffing box shoulder, allowing for rapid alignment with the pump body's flushing channel without the need for repeated adjustments.

3. Thickened, Wear-Resistant Body

Features substantial wall thickness to resist medium erosion and prevent deformation or cracking. It remains leak-proof and dimensionally stable under long-term high-pressure water flow and is dynamically balanced to suit high-speed shaft rotation.

Main Material Options

1. 304/316 Stainless Steel (Recommended for Export)

Corrosion-resistant and rust-proof; suitable for slurries with mild acidity or alkalinity. Offers a long service life and is a standard choice for export orders.

2. High-Chromium Wear-Resistant Alloy

High hardness and excellent resistance to mineral sand erosion; the preferred choice for handling highly abrasive mine tailings and sand/gravel slurries.

3. Polyethylene/Polyurethane Plastic

Lightweight and resistant to acid/alkali corrosion; poses no risk of scratching the shaft sleeve. Suitable for desulfurization pumps handling corrosive chemical wastewater.

4. Cast Iron

Cost-effective; suitable for standard operating conditions involving neutral clean water or low-abrasion slurries. III. Key Product Features

1. High-Pressure Water Seal Barrier: Prevents Leakage and Sand Ingress

External clean flush water flows through the distribution holes of the "118" water seal ring to create an annular high-pressure water curtain. This acts as a barrier against high-concentration slurry and fine sand particles from the pump, preventing them from entering the stuffing box and eliminating issues such as slurry spraying, slag leakage, and rapid packing wear.

2. Dual-Protection Shaft Seal: Cooling and Lubrication

A continuous annular water flow dissipates heat generated by friction between the packing and the shaft sleeve. This prevents high-temperature damage (burning/ablation) to the packing and scoring of the shaft sleeve, significantly extending the service life of these components and reducing the frequency of maintenance shutdowns.

3. Standardized Part Coding: Seamless Replacement

Uses the unified "118" part code and is fully compatible with the stuffing box structures of mainstream horizontal slurry pumps. It fits both new and existing equipment; procurement, stocking, and on-site replacement require no custom machining, allowing for direct replacement of OEM parts.

4. Versatile Sealing Configurations

Can be used as a standalone packing seal or combined with an expeller and pressure-reducing cover to form a hydrodynamic sealing assembly, ensuring stable performance across both high- and low-pressure operating conditions.

5. Simple Assembly and Convenient Maintenance

Features an annular split-assembly design; packing maintenance can be performed without dismantling major pump components, allowing for quick removal and replacement, thereby minimizing production line downtime.

Main Functions and Applications

1. Sealing and Barrier Protection: Creates an annular water seal to prevent internal slurry leakage and block solid particles from entering the shaft seal gap.

2. Cooling and Heat Dissipation: Continuously circulates water to cool the friction interface, preventing packing damage caused by high-temperature carbonization.

3. Lubrication and Wear Reduction: Water flow lubricates the contact surface between the pump shaft and packing, reducing wear and operational noise.

4. Operational Stability: Minimizes shaft seal overheating and leakage failures, ensuring continuous 24-hour production in mining operations. Applicable Industries and Operating Conditions

Suitable for high-abrasion, high-concentration slurry transport applications, including mineral processing, coal washing plants, power plant desulfurization, metallurgical tailings handling, sand and gravel dredging, and the transport of corrosive chemical wastewater.

Compatible with the gland seal structures of horizontal slurry pumps; utilizes the standard "118" part code and offers perfect compatibility with complete OEM seal accessory sets
